Custom Exhaust

20th June 2004

Part 4

After the exhaust system is finished, it is time to re-connect the battery and start the car.

Crank crank crank crank ................. die ..................... oooopppppssssssss!

Try again ..... crank crank crank crank ............ start ...................... idling weak, hesitant, wanting to die ..........

Oh my god! what have I done ..... the exhaust system is not matching the engine......... I've screwed-up...... wasted my investment..... oh no....... what am I going to do............. arrrggghhhh I'm so tired now..... I'm not going to re-install the old extractor today, may be next week ...... engine dies.....................shxtttttttttttttttttttttt

Wooooooo, this is really not very good.......

Start again, exhaust shop staff rev the engine. Very hesitant, very reluctant, very rough breathing ..... I'm fucked up......... when the staff release the throttle, POP, BANG. Internal combustion explosion.......... engine dies .......... fucked.... I'm really fucked........ oh no.......

but no choice, start again, take it out for a drive.......

1st gear start moving....... weak.... but somethings are better than before ............ but exhaust system knocking the chassis. Power start to return. Idling start to get better....... immediately drive back to shop and told them about the chassis knocking.

Out of a sudden, I realise why the engine was in trouble..... that's because I've reset that ECU's memory of long period of fuel map compensation "AND" that I set the AFM flap too tight. That's why the engine fucked up. Nevermind, release flap tension allot back to estimated original, while the staff fix the knocking.

5 minutes later all done. I reset the ECU and restart the engine ................ Vvvvrrrrrroooooooooommmmmmmmmmm. Perfecto! no engine problems...... ahhaahhah wah, so lucky....... really really lucky.

Drive out ......... wow, very good, power starts to come at 2,000 rpm which previously was not possible...

Power really rush in at 3,000 rpm ........... wow

Power at 4,000 rpm was like previous at 5,000 rpm. Everything is so early now :)

Power at 5,000 rpm - unknown, no road liao ........ hahhhahahah have to find another place to test.

Turn back, wow, why cornering so grip...... why last time don't have??? power-throttle and see what happens.... wow, why never have the uneasy feeling of the tail wanting to spin-out anymore........ so many good things in so short a time.

Anyway, go back pay and drive home.

heheheh 8,000 rpm here I come........ :) conclusion..... power really good.... it does not make more horsepower, nor more torque, but torque output seems to be very very smooth....... unimaginable.......power output very linear, very predictable.......

Power after 6,000 rpm still strong and good, no negative behavior after 6,000 rpm optimization point. Except slow up to 8,000 rpm.

Previously, power band is 4k rpm to 8k rpm. Below 4k completely sucks. Above 6.5k power is uncontrollable... always sudden, very difficult to predict or control... difficult to learn...... :(

More testing to come.......
