Basic Study - Page 15 - Phase Plug
Please notice the jet like opening / mouth of the compression driver. It is a phase plug. Designed to equalise the wave's outward pressure to minimise phase cancellation within the compression driver and other more uses.
The back of the phase plug. The compression driver is also the shape of the inverted dome. Once excited and vibrate will produce pressure at which must be ejected out through the lines. This way the path difference will equalise somewhat and hopefully produce a coherent stronger output wave. Both useful in terms of power efficiency and number of frequencies it can produce.
