7th April 2004

The required parts are finally at hand, after nearly one year of delay due to stinginess to spend .

It was ordered on 24th February 2004 and stated to arrive on 24th March 2004. I didn't check until yesterday and Amir gave a call today for collection. So it is here now . Deposits? Oh I forgot to pay . The parts which was ordered are: -

Previously the plan was to follow the manual's instruction 100% where the "adjusting washer" thickness needs to be calibrated by: -

  1. remove old LSD.

  2. use filler gauge to measure gap thickness.

  3. dismantle and measure worn "adjusting washer" thickness as well as "clutch plate" thickness and "thrust washer" thickness.

  4. perform the required addition or deletion calculation.

  5. insert new "adjusting thrust washer" according to calculated requirement.

But, errrrrrrr no one is hardworking enough to open up a rear axle's differential, just to measure it and reinstall everything back, then wait for parts to arrive over one month time, and re-dismantle the rear axle and replace the parts and re-install. Too much work.

So a decision was made to take the step of ordering the thickest "adjusting washer" then skim it down to correct thickness as required. This will take no more than 1/2 a day. Much more time efficient and do not need to dismantle and reinstall the rear axle twice.

However thanks to Gabriel Tyler of www.technotoytuning.com for very kindly and generously post a detailed replacement process in www.club4ag.com's forum.

Which according to my personal understanding from Gabriel's statement, since the purpose of the rebuilt is to achieve better LSD performance hence use the thickness "adjusting washer" only. Since LSD will wear out over time this method also last longer term.

If this is what I understand, then the complete rebuilt process will be much easier. Just dismantle, change and reinstall. No need to perform measurement whatsoever.
