Suspension Upgrade Journey

Part 5 - Front Rear Suspension Re-work

11th April 2003

In the last week, I had to take 3 trips to work out-station driving up north to Kuala Kangsar (The Royal City of the State of Perak) 250km +/-10km and back down to Kuala Lumpur (Capitol of Malaysia) 250km +/-10km in the same day. I notice many things about my car's handling and the suspension. The conclusion is the suspension setup is not good at all and needs further serious improvements.

This evening my mech. install the THICK rear coil rubbers previously acquired on 9th April 2003. Below shows the "too short" TRD coils on thickest coil rubber.

Notice the rubber added a total of more than 1 inch, close to 2 inches of height to it. This will help from the dilemma in Upgrade Rear Absorber to TRD

After the installation we found the rear still too low, but imagine the last time in Upgrade Rear Absorber to TRD it was nearly 2 inches deeper into the mud-guard :( that was about where I draw the red line at.

Since I got the AE86's front strut top coil pan we changed the front coil to TRD ones as well and the front height is now ................................. perfect :) as shown below.

And the overall performance is ????????? too early to tell, let you know later :)

anyway, imagine last time the front coil was compressed 50% in length as shown below: -

and the rear coil is also dam long, but now replaced by the "too short" TRD coil as shown above: -

The old rear coils :)

Aftermath

Hheeheheheheheheeh, I went out-station working again, hehehehehehhhe was late to client's site so...... hehehehhhehhee I tail behind a big 4WD and didn't notice was going 170 already.

Man, those coils - lowering effect sure help and those hard / stiff absorber.
