Roll Center Adjuster with Negative Camber + Track Increase

3rd August 2004

Part 2 - Match the rear track width to front

The objective was to make the rear width as wide as the front. Two 7 mm thick spacer was added on each side giving it extra 14 mm off-set. The rear wheels' lugs needs to be changed from standard length to long type. 8 lugs was needed but only 7 was found. Under desperation one rear wheel was lacking one lug.

New alignment settings were: -

  1. Camber -2.2 degrees

  2. Castor forward 0.5 degrees

  3. Toe = zero

The alignment mechanic set the camber first.

Later the caster was found way-out on my right. No wonder it scratches my inner mud-guard all the time - dam. So he corrected that from backwards 0.5 degrees to forward 0.5 degrees. Finally toe. It is now late, pay and leave. Shop closed.

We looked at the car and felt that the right camber was more like zero instead of -2.2 hence we jack up the car ourselves and adjusted it by eye until correct. Thanks to master sifu samurai Yoga and sifu master of love Allan for helping out. It is learned that alignment is tricky business and that changing one thing (like camber) will affect other things (like caster), hence everyone is advised to re-check other things (including toe) and what lot after performing changes.

Well, the important lesson of the day was - the car did not roll as much as before. By increasing the rear track width to match the front, the body roll reduced.

Well, this is actually wrong, but I didn't know from 3rd August 2004 until 10th September 2004. So, please assume it is correct for now and that a new explanation of correction will be explained on the next page. Thanks for your patience.
