Water in AFM

17th November 2003 (Monday)

Morning

Start the car but failed. So open the AFM to check carefully and found some water in it. Took it out and invert it. Around 10 big drops of water fell out. Shake it more !!!!!

Must be that rain........aaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh - but there was no water marks on the AFM??? how did the water go in???

No use, this is no good,  will try to solve it tonight. Got to go to work now.

Evening

Change back the Igniter and Distributor. Clean spark plugs by copper brushing (wrong method, but it is getting desperate). Hair Dryer blow the AFM.

Install everything back and start the car. No go. :(

Then, Yoga came and helped, gave permission to test my ECU in his car. It works fine. The coil was also tested in his car and found no problem. So what is the problem ???

After yolk left around 2230 hours, dinner time. When finished, the area was cleaned up, spare parts everywhere, tools everywhere, this and that.

In no time, my mechanic came (without invitation - thanks goes to my caring mechanic) He was updated on tests, progress or confirmation on what so ever.

He then try to force start the car :O :O crank crank crank crank crank, after several attempts. The last one being over 10 seconds of continuous crank + full throttle on and off and the car finally start wah

Experience count in this case - quickly the digital multi meter was taken out to measure the AFM Flap's output voltage. This time the AFM was held as still as possible.

Oh dear - what's suppose to be 5V to 0V became 0.11V to 0.25V only :(((

No wonder it is running rich - the output voltage is telling the ECU that the flap in fully open. Aarrrrggghhhhhh - must be that water previously :( :( :(

The AFM is tested by pushing the flap fully open, it went from 0.11V to 0.25V hahaahahah 0.25V means flap open less compared to 0.11V to the ECU and the engine can be heard to idle better because reduce fuel hahahahhahah

OK, by this time it is 0000 hours, better clean up and buy my mechanic mamak (non alcoholic drinks)

After that sleep !!!!! will attempt to open the AFM and have a proper electronic cleaning and hope it works - god bless.
