Speed up Computer - fast trick
30th May 2006
Today, even with 3GHz CPU speed and 1 GB RAM, the PC is still slow at times, dragged down by the familiar grgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgr sound of..................
The harddisk, busy ............................... running the stone-age technology "virtual memory"
It is so stupid of the software not to take advantage of the huge amount of RAM. So, how to go about it? what's the trick? and how to make it work?
Easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just stick a 1GB USB drive into the USB 2.0 connection with 480Mbps throughput. Set virtual memory to run on it instead on pure harddisk. Hua-la......... all RAM light speed solution.
At home I'm currently running win2k over P3 650Mhz with 256MB only over Dell Latitude with USB 1.0 of 1Mbps throughput only, and even this works. Switching windows does not need to wait and does not hear the harddisk constant access anymore.
My USB drive has a light and I could see when virtual memory is running and when is not.
In office I'm running winXP over P4 2.8GHz with 512MB DDR2 on Dell GX680 ??? with USB 2.0 of 480Mbps throughput and my god............... it's wonder...................
So, what are you waiting for............. grab your thumb drive and start making it the dedicated virtual memory drive. Else you could also have 2nd HDD for it. Same thing.
Btw the PC does not shut down properly, have to do it manually.
